Cairo Climate Talks brought together experts from all disciplines to discuss the results of the fourteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity CBD COP 14.
Biological diversity is the variety of life on earth. Biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation are one of the greatest global challenges of our time. Every single species has its own role, and its loss leads to an imbalance of the ecosystem and threats human existence. Consequently, biodiversity loss requires agile solutions at the global, national, and local levels, where governments, the private sector, civil society, and the public work in unison.
In November 2018, all these stakeholders gathered for the 14th Conference of the Parties to the UN Biodiversity Convention (CBD COP14), that took place for the first time in Africa and the Middle East, in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. The conference launched the negotiations for a post-2020 global biodiversity framework, which will replace the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020.
COP 14 intended to exchange perspectives on nature-based solutions for enhanced action on climate change as it is vital to strengthen our nature to support mitigation and adaptation to climate change.
