Looking for a great delta-8 edibles recipe that can give you a balanced, mellow high and all the other perks of delta-8 THC? Look no further than this recipe. Below we’re covering everything you need to know about making your own delta-8 edibles.

What is delta-8 THC?

Delta-8 THC is synthesized from hemp-derived CBD, making it legal on a federal level. It offers the same physical and mental effects as traditional delta-9 THC, though it tends to feel less potent. Even though its made from CBD, its chemical structure is similar to delta-9 THC, giving it THC-like effects.

Delta-8 THC binds to receptors in the endocannabinoid system in the same way as traditional THC, though it feels less intense due to a slight difference in its chemical structure. Many people are turning to delta-8 THC to manage anxiety and other physical and mental ailments that are helped with delta-9 THC when delta-9 feels too intense to use.

The high feels clearer and more relaxed, offering the physical and mental effects of THC without the intense psychoactive effects it’s known for. Delta-8 is also popular among people who microdose THC for these reasons. Edibles are a popular way to microdose THC, and delta-8 edibles are just as effective, simply less intense.

How do you make edibles with delta-8 THC?

You can make delta-8 edibles at home in the same way you’d make normal edibles. You’ll first concentrate the delta-8 into a cooking oil or alcohol tincture and use that to infuse it to your favorite foods, beverages, condiments, and dips. One thing to keep in mind before making your own delta-8 edibles is your dose. While delta-8 edibles aren’t as strong as regular THC edibles, they can still feel pretty intense when you use too much.

Do you need to decarb delta-8 THC?

Decarboxylation is the process of activating the normally inactive THCa found in cannabis flower through a low and slow heating process. Since delta-8 THC isn’t found in high quantities in hemp or cannabis flowers, it doesn’t need to be decarbed to work in an edible recipe. Delta-8 THC is synthesized in a lab from CBD, so wherever you find it, it’ll already be refined and active and ready for use in your recipes. Heating your delta-8 THC won’t make it less potent either, so don’t worry about cooking your delta-8 oils or tinctures in your recipes.

Recipe: DIY Delta-8 Gummies

Gummies are a fun and easy way to add delta-8 THC to your daily routine. The recipe calls for a delta-8 tincture of your choice, but feel free to get creative with them. Experiment with different candy molds, flavors, and binding agents and start making the best delta-8 gummies out there.

To get started, you will need:

  1. 2 droppers of your favorite delta-8 THC tincture (you’ll get about 10mg per piece if you use a 5000mg tincture)
  2. 1 ½ cups of your favorite fruit puree (we like strawberry banana!)
  3. 1 ½ cups of juice (grape or apple taste great)
  4. ½ cup of gelatin (use agar agar if you want to keep it vegan)
  5. 1 tsp lemon juice
  6. 5 drops of honey
  7. A few drops of terpenes for additional natural flavoring (optional)
  8. 2 tablespoons of citric acid + ¼ cup sugar (optional, if you want to make sour gummies)
  9. A blender
  10. A saucepan
  11. A metal strainer
  12. Candy thermometer
  13. Pipette
  14. Candy molds (for fun shapes)

To make your delta-8 gummies:

  1. Using the blender, puree your fruit until it’s smooth. Strain out any seeds with a sieve or strainer, and add your delta-8 tincture and terpenes into the puree, mixing well.
  2. Add juice and gelatin to a saucepan and let it sit for two minutes before applying heat
  3. Turn the stove on to medium-high and stir the mixture until it reaches 165°F
  4. Turn off the heat and stir in your fruit puree, lemon juice, honey, and terpenes.
  5. Use your pipette to fill the candy molds while your mixture is still warm. If you let it cool too long, the mixture will set and be unusable.
  6. Refrigerate the molds for at least 30 minutes. Go longer if you filled large candy molds.
  7. When the gummies are cool, remove them from the molds and store them in an airtight jar.
  8. If you want to make sour gummies, remove them from the molds and toss them in the optional sugar and citric acid mixture.

How long does it take for delta-8 THC gummies to kick in?

Delta-8 edibles are just like other edibles. Since they have to be digested and metabolized to begin working, they take a little longer to kick in than smoking delta-8 would. Typically you’ll begin to feel the effects of your delta-8 gummies about 30 minutes to an hour after you eat them. However, they can take up to two hours to start affecting you, so always start with a low dose and work your way up until you know how they affect you. Delta-8 edibles can affect you for up to 8 hours.

Are delta-8 edibles legal?

Technically speaking, delta-8 THC is perfectly legal under the 2018 Farm Bill, and that extends to delta-8 edibles.

While hemp products are legal on a federal level, there is a bit of controversy state to state on the legality of delta-8 THC. The Farm Bill extended to hemp-derived cannabinoids like CBD and synthetics derived from it. However, delta-8 THC is illegal in 11 states due to its similarities to delta-9 THC. The DEA is also currently working on addressing the situation.

So ultimately, delta-8 is in a legal gray area right now. It’s neither fully legal nor illegal, but as of right now, you can buy it practically anywhere and make your own edibles. Always check the laws in your state before purchasing delta-8 THC.
