6 Benefits for Athletes from CBD
Many athletes take quite a range of supplements for their various needs. Many people don’t want to add another one… so why would an athlete want to start taking CBD?

1.Pain Relief
Both CBD and THC work through your endocannabinoid system to effect pain receptors in various parts of the body.

Most of the studies that have been completed with THC rich cannabis, but early research, anecdotal evidence, and biological plausibility point to the fact that CBD is just as effect as THC for pain relief.

2.Inflammation
CBD has been shown to reduce inflammation, both in muscles and that generated by the immune system, helping you get back to your training faster.

Especially with the overuse of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs rampant at the top levels of sport, something like CBD which is much safer is a welcome option.

3.Improve Sleep
You can’t perform your best when you’re tired. Plain and simple.

CBD helps to regulate serotonin levels in the brain and body, which helps sooth feelings of anxiety, addiction, appetite, sleep, pain and even some stomach issues.

Serotonin also signals melatonin, which his one of the main chemicals that helps us fall asleep, so by regulating serotonin CBD also indirectly effects melatonin.

4.Promotes Optimal Mood
The endocannabinoid system, and thus CBD, help to maintain a balance in the body. Imbalances often lead or aggravate feelings of stress, depression and anxiety. Keeping these emotions under control can help deter a problem that may affect you in competition or training.

5.Calms Stomach
Endurance athletes especially often suffer from GI distress related issues, causing them to drop out of races or cut training session short. Often this is caused by dehydration or overheating, which CBD can’t help with, but if the athlete is suffering from inflammation issues which is common, CBD can help.

6. Alternative to Pain Meds
Pain meds, be them the anti-inflammatory ones we mentioned earlier or Opioid, are a major problem in the world of sport.

Not only does long term use of many of these medications have harmful side effects, but they can become very addicting and may even lead to dead. The CDC reported over 42000 deaths in the US in 2016 to Opioid pain meds.
