“Hi, folks. Buck Rizvi here, ultimate dog. This video is all about can CBD oil help dogs with cancer, and spoiler alert, the short answer is yes, but you’ll want to watch this entire video, so you have an understanding of the benefits and things to watch out for. Stay tuned. First question we get often is what is CBD? CBD stands for something called cannabidiol. It’s found in the cannabis plant, but before you get up in arms about that, know that most CBD and CBD oil is extracted from the hemp plant, and the hemp plant has been cultivated to have virtually zero THC, which is the psychoactive compound found in most cannabis.
How does CBD work? Well, CBD operates on something called the endocannabinoid system, or ECS, and that’s something found in the body of all mammals, including humans and dogs. It’s something that regulates immune function, the nervous system, and many other aspects of our bodies. One of the interesting things about cannabinoids is that, one, we produce them ourselves, and they connect with something called the ECS receptors, but cannabinoids are also in CBD. It’s something called phytocannabinoids, meaning plant-based cannabinoids. One aspect of those phytocannabinoids found in CBD is that they tend to slow down the breakdown of cannabinoids in the body, so you get a longer benefit.
What are some of the benefits when it comes to treating cancer in dogs? Well, number one, it’s clinically proven to reduce pain and inflammation, and those are two big things associated with cancer and cancer treatment. Number two is that there was a clinical study showing not only the reduction of tumor size or being an antitumor agent, but CBD tripled the life span of animals being treated with CBD plus radiation and chemotherapy versus just radiation and chemotherapy alone. CBD also aids with sleep function, and it does this counterintuitively, by helping the dog have a more awake state during the day, so that it can rest better at night. Fourth and foremost, CBD oil will help to increase appetite and help eliminate nausea, which we know are both big problems when it comes to cancer treatment.
Any risks when it comes to using CBD for the treatment of cancer? And the short answer is the risks are minimal, because CBD is derived from the hemp plant, and the hemp plant used has virtually zero THC or the psychoactive compound. The other interesting point is that CBD oil has virtually no drug tolerance, so you can continue to give this to your dog without worrying about it having reduced benefits.”
