Secret #1 Use Ice
If you have sharp or shooting back pain, usually the best thing to do is use ice. Use a cold pack for 5-20 minutes at least 3 times a day. Never place a cold pack directly on the skin. Make sure you use a towel, particularly if you have sensitive skin.
Heating pads are not recommended. Use moist heat if you can’t stand cold. Electric heating pads are dangerous, and often aggravate lower back pain. This is due to electric field radiation and its effects on cell metabolism.
Secret #2 Avoid Sitting
Sitting rigidly straight is bad for the back. Doing what you do naturally and leaning back is much better for the discs that separate the back bones. If you must sit, put weight on your elbows and change your posture frequently. Well-meaning teachers were wrong to encourage us to sit bolt upright for hours. This damages the spine, particularly the discs. There are still old diagrams that imply that sitting very straight is beneficial, this is not true. If you’re sitting reading this, go ahead and lean back. Put weight on your elbows and see if that doesn’t feel better? You’ll have less low back pain if you do this.
Secret #4 Chiropractic is Best
In most instances of back pain, don’t see your medical doctor. According to the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research, after an exhaustive study by the United States Government; the standard medical modalities for low back pain were found to be “very expensive and not very effective.”

Secret #5 Avoid Bending Forward While Twisting
Bending forward and twisting is hard on the spine. Activities like; lifting the garage door, shoveling or bending forward to lift the groceries from the trunk of a car can cause the discs of the spine to tear overtime. This is because disc pressures increase dramatically with these particular movements.
Secret #6 Avoid High Heels
Ladies may never give up high heels but they are very hard on the spine. Many men love their cowboy boots which also aggravate low back conditions. When we wear heels, it puts pressure on the lower back by increasing the curve.
