ABOUT THE PRESENTERS

ME FUIMAONO-POE, MSN, FNP
Me Fuimaono-Poe has over 20 years of nursing experience; she has worked in acute care in oncology, medical-surgical, pediatrics, and behavioral health. Her experience in the outpatient setting includes family practice and community health. She is currently the medical director for the Malie Cannabis Clinic. At the clinic, Me oversees the daily clinic flow, assesses and certifies patients for medical cannabis use, and creates individualized dosing plans based on goals and symptom management. Since founding the clinic in 2016, Me has certified over 8,000 patients in the state of Hawaii. Because of the political nature of cannabis, Me is also involved in lobbying at the legislature and has petitioned the State of Hawaii to add more qualifying conditions for cannabis use. She has also presented to the Hawaii Senate, House, and the Attorney General about cannabis and opiate use disorder.

While working at the only Level One Trauma center in the pacific basin, Me worked with her team to develop and implement several programs, including a suicide screening protocol, reduction in sitter usage, and nurse practitioner residency, and helped to design a program to train nurses in trauma-informed care. She led a research project that examined burnout in registered nurses and encouraged interventions to decrease compassion fatigue; the team presented the outcomes at nursing grand rounds.

Me earned her associate’s degree in nursing (ADN) from Penn Valley Community College and her master’s in nursing from Hawaii Pacific University. She is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners as a family nurse practitioner.

Me insists on a healthy work-life balance. While not at work, she is with her family at the beach, hiking, gardening, or brunching with her besties. She is very actively involved in community organizing and is comfortable in board rooms or with a bull horn. She works with several local environmental and cannabis organizations. She is actively working for an adult-use legal cannabis program in a Hawaii community that provides justice for those who have been adversely affected by the war on drugs.
