United States Food and Drug Administration has not approved the medicinal use of CBD oil for fibromyalgia, however CBD was approved for treating two types of epilepsy in June 2018.
CBD currently remains a popular choice for people with number of health issues.
Can CBD oil work for fibromyalgia?
There were only a few studies conducted regarding the effectiveness of CBD oil in treating fibromyalgia.
The research cannot decisively say why the CBD appears to reduce some fibromyalgia symptoms in some people and not in others.
The pain-relieving effects of CBD oil can be explained how this substance affects the brain.
It may interrupt the communicating signals of pain between the brain and the body.
CBD also contains anti-inflammatory properties that would reduce heat and swelling around injury or disease and it would also reduce pain.
Is CBD oil more effective than medical marijuana?
Combination of other chemical compounds in the hemp plant may intensify the positive effects of CBD oil and provide additional benefits to the user.
A study conducted in 2016 suggests that a lack of endocannabinoids that bind to cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2 in human body may be the root of chronic pain syndromes, migraines and fibromyalgia.
By taking CBD oil consistently, it may correct this deficiency, and help alleviating chronic pain.
More research is now being conducted on this treatment.
Early research was solely focused on medical marijuana only, omitting CBD oil.
CBD oil has been effective in reducing pain, improving sleep, and diminish pain in patients with fibromyalgia, migraine and similar conditions involving chronic pain.
How to use CBD oil
A variety of websites offer instructions for using CBD oil, the most popular method is sublingual (under the tongue).
Anyone that is suffering from fibromyalgia should discuss it with his doctor before using CBD oil.
And as with any medication, it is important to start with a low dosage and watch the body reaction.
Outlook for Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia is a chronic illness, and CBD is not the cure.
However, many people with the condition find out that applying combinations of various remedies such as CBD oil can help to manage or in some cases eliminate symptoms.
CBD oil works best when it is combined with medication and other remedies.
If patient lives in state where CBD is legal, it is still suggested to talk to a medical professional before using it.
Is CBD Oil Legal?
Hemp based CBD products (with less than 0.3 percent THC) are legal on the federal level, however they still may be illegal in some states.
Marijuana is illegal on the federal level, but legal in some states.
