What is CBD?
In this video, we’ll answer that question.
It’s important to educate before you self-medicate using this natural component of the cannabis plant.
What does CBD stand for? CBD is also known as Cannabidiol.
It is the non-psychoactive chemical component of the cannabis plant.
People have used CBD to treat a multitude of health conditions.

And because of our mainstream media, CBD has slowly gained popularity as a natural alternative to traditional western medicine.
You’ve probably already seen, or read stories of how CBD has helped relieve everything from minor to chronic joint pain; or reduced seizures in children; calmed those suffering from anxiety; and more.
CBD has also been used to help man’s best friend.
Yes, apparently, even Fido can benefit from CBD too.
However, keep in mind that the scientific and medical research that supports these claims is still in its infancy.
But the early anecdotal evidence shows many positive benefits.
There are many cannabinoids that can come from the cannabis plant.
What is a cannabinoid?
According Google: “A cannabinoid is any of a group of closely related compounds which include cannabinol and the active constituents of cannabis.”
CBD just happens to be the one that has shown the most promise of providing relief to medical conditions without getting people “high”.
The credit for that goes to a compound called THC, or Tetrahydrocannabinol.
So here’s where the water gets a little more murky.
Did you know that there are two versions of CBD?
There is one version created from the hemp plant.
And the other created from the marijuana plant.
Why is this important, you ask?
When it comes to marijuana, what’s actually harvested are the buds.
The buds are what cause users to have the “stoned” effect.
On the other hand, the seeds and stalks are what’s harvested from the hemp plant.
Hemp doesn’t contain enough THC to get users high.
But while both hemp-based CBD oil and CBD oil derived from the marijuana plant have low amounts of THC, hemp only has traces of CBD (about 3.5 percent).
On the other hand, CBD oil from marijuana can have up to 20 percent.
The higher the concentration of CBD, the greater the health benefit.
It’s gets even more murky as the United States Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) classifies marijuana as a Schedule 1 drug.
This means it is illegal under Federal law.
Because hemp oil doesn’t contain high amounts of CBD, it is viewed more as a health supplement.
Sort of like a vitamin.
And the reason why you are able to purchase it in almost every health food store in the U.S.
On the other hand, CBD oil from the marijuana plant is like a pharmaceutical drug.
We’re still learning about what CBD is.
And while success stories are pouring in, it’s still important to continue to exhaust all avenues of traditional medicine before trying out alternatives, especially when it comes to serious health conditions.
