CBD Oil for Plantar Fasciitis: Can CBD help with Foot and Ankle Pain?

Plantar Fasciitis can be a major problem if you work on your feet or are in a sport that requires lots of running or jumping. As CBD products have become legal across the United States, we get questions about using it for different conditions and this is one of them.

In this video we’ll look at how using CBD Oil and topical solutions can help treat the aches and pains associated with plantar fasciitis.

What is Plantar Fasciitis
The plantar fascia is a ligament that runs the length of the foot and attaches to your heel. This ligament acts as a shock absorber for much of the impact the foot receives in day to day activities, as well as running, jumping and other exercise related stresses.

The more stress the plantar fascia is put under the more likely it is to become inflamed, irritated, or even develop small tears.
These tears cause inflammation, and the combination of the two can be very painful to walk on, especially first thing in the morning or after you’ve been sitting for a long time.

Unfortunately, once you have developed plantar fasciitis there are not a lot of good ways to treat it other than rest. Common things doctors will prescribe for relieving pain associated with this condition are: Bed rest, shoe inserts, plantar fascia release, pain killers like Ibuprofen or aspirin, steroidal injections, and surgery.

CBD Oil and Plantar Fasciitis
So, the question becomes how might CBD help?
CBD Oil is being found to be a natural way to treat many nagging injuries, medical conditions, and day to day aches and pains. Cannabidiol, or CBD for short, is one of over a hundred chemical compounds that make up the cannabis plant.

While cannabis has long been touted for its medicinal properties, many don’t enjoy the high that is associated with it. CBD does not cause these psychoactive effects and much of the early research shows it to be just as effective as a treatment option.

Benefits of CBD on Plantar Fasciitis Symptoms
As we already mentioned, plantar fasciitis is a result of tears and inflammation in the fascia of the foot. Two of CBD’s more researched medical uses are as a pain reliever and an anti-inflammatory substance.

There have been a good number of studies published showing CBD’s promise as a transdermal pain reliever, its validity for difficult to treat pain such as the foot, and its powerful anti-inflammatory properties.
What is the best way to take CBD for Plantar Fasciitis?

Taking CBD Orally or Sublingually
Oral options include both CBD Oils and edibles, both of which have advantages. Oils are taken sublingually and reach the bloodstream quickly, meaning the pain in your feet could be lessened in as little as a few minutes.

CBD edibles, like gummies or cookies, must be digested before they can start effecting the inflammation and pain in the body. This means that you’ll want to plan ahead for your desire relief.

Both options allow you to consistently dose the proper amount of CBD. You can track the dose and timing that seems to do the best job mitigating the inflammation and pain of plantar fasciitis.

Topical CBD solutions
CBD oil cream, lotion, salves, and other topical products have the benefit of targeted relief. The CBD doesn’t have to travel through your body to reach the affected area, you can apply it directly to your heel and bottom of your foot.

The drawback of CBD topicals is they are nearly impossible to dose consistently. You may use the perfect amount one application and not nearly enough the next.

We generally recommend a combination of CBD oil and topical products to manage this condition. By taking an oil or edible dose once or twice a day to manage the inflammation, you can use the topical product more to treat acute pain symptoms.
